    3. Time to Shoot

    Arrive at Danny’s photography studio in Old Toronto, warm up with some conversation and perhaps a cup of tea, and begin your photo session. Make sure to read the following section discussing the photoshoot process.

  • A. First we Build Some Rapport

    Before anything else, it’s important to have a quick conversation where we discuss your goals for your portrait photoshoot. This is a good opportunity to also get to know each other a bit. This will help you get superior quality photos.

    B. We Capture Some Images

    Now we’re ready to shoot your portraits. We capture some test images to start, then shoot for a few minutes and do a preliminary review on our massive swivelling screen. You’ll love the quality!

    C. We Shoot, Review, and Repeat

    We keep shooting photos and reviewing them on our big screen, making note of all of our favourite images we capture. Then, we repeat the process until we’re both happy and confident with the selection of images we’ve captured and chosen together. Most of the time we finish faster than anticipated.

  • How do I Choose My Favourite Photos for Editing?

    As previously mentioned, we typically make note of your preferred images in-studio so that we can speed up the turnaround time on editing your favourite images in a timely manner. This is the method we use for the Gold Headshots and Platinum Portraits so that we can get you your photos within 1 business day*! For all other portrait types, we send you an online proofing gallery so you can “like” your favourite photos for retouching, and leave us any special requests you may have for specific images.

    When do I get my Edited Photos?

    Within 1 business day, you’ll receive your favourite photos, edited and ready to upload to LinkedIn, your company website, or your social media! Note, that for larger photoshoots (such as branding sessions) requiring more finished photos, your photographs will take longer to process, but timeliness is always our priority. You’ll always get your photos in a reasonable time span, and we will never cut corners on retouching your portraits.

Where do We Do Our Photoshoot?

  • Your photos are shot at That Toronto Studio, our professional photography studio located in Studio District (Old Toronto’s Leslieville, on Carlaw between Queen and Dundas).

    We can also come to your choice of location for an added fee, and for some elite clients we will fly out and capture them globetrotting. Please inquire for these rates, as they are substantially higher.

  • As you can see, the studio is not only comfortable and fully furnished, but it provides a makeup and hair mirror for any touchups you may want to perform, as well as abundant natural light and tall ceilings and windows for a truly unique experience.

    Further, our studio has the highest grade of photography lighting which allows us to capture consistently high quality photography, which we review with you on our swivelling large screen.

  • This might seem like a no brainer, but many people ask us “why should I hire a Toronto headshot photographer, when I can easily have someone else take my picture for free?”

    And to that, we often say, go ahead! If you can get the results you want by using a more cost-effective method, why wouldn’t you?

    But often, the results people want, and the free methods available to them are in conflict—that is, you get what you pay for.

    Often, people have high expectations of what their headshots or portraits should look like. And that typically comes with the benefit of hiring a professional Toronto portrait photographer!

  • If you’re looking to shoot with our Toronto headshot and portrait photographer inside of our Toronto photography studio, you can book your headshot or portrait sessions online via the BOOK NOW portal. You’ll need a valid VISA or MasterCard to book (no AMEX).

  • If you’d like to schedule your photoshoot elsewhere than at our Toronto photography studio, it’s best to inquire directly with us. Please note that it is more cost effective and easy to simply shoot at our Toronto photo studio, as traveling to your office requires more production time to set-up and take down, and travel expenses. For this reason we advise you to consider shooting at our Toronto studio unless you’ve got a generous budget.

  • If you’ve never been photographed, that’s ok! We work with plenty of newbies everyday and it’s actually quite a fun experience when you’re guided through it with patience and a can-do, fun, and positive attitude! Trust us, you’ll have a ton of fun, as your photographer Danny is super positive and funny—at least, most of the time!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

  • Although most of the headshots and portraits I capture are shot at my professional photography studio, I can also come to you, on location, for an additional fee if you prefer.

  • Whether capturing headshots or portraits, you’ll want to bring clothes that are clean, wrinkle-free, don’t have too many patterns on them, and match the vibe of the look you’re going for! For example, if you’re shooting corporate LinkedIn photos, best to dress smart casual, or formal. When in doubt, overdressing is best, and no one ever had any issues if they brought an extra outfit or two just in case.

  • You’re welcome to bring someone if that helps you feel more comfortable. Having an additional person that sits quietly off to the side during your shoot is totally fine if it helps you feel better! Please note, that if they are also seeking a photo, this will be an additional charge, and it is of better value to pre-book their photo rather than to request it while in-studio.

    Pets are welcome, but only as a last resort. Ideally pets stay at home during your shoot unless they are an active part of your shoot.

    As you can see, any distractions we may encounter, may adversely impact your photoshoot so it’s ideal to minimize distractions and potential complications.

  • Each session varies in length. To compare lengths of sessions, please see the BOOK NOW page.

    At the beginning of each session we take some time to talk, get comfortable, and build some rapport so it doesn’t feel like you’re shooting with a stranger. Taking the necessary time to be put at ease is important to ensuring you get the highest quality photos possible.

  • You’ll be able to interact with your photos as we shoot them. The photos will be displayed on an almost 50” screen for you to see live how your photos are turning out! If adjustments are needed, we can make them as required so that you get the perfect final shot!

  • As mentioned in this FAQ, you’ll be able to see your photos on an almost 50” screen, and before you leave I’ll ask you which photo(s) you like the most for editing, and that’s what I’ll edit for you!

  • You’ll receive your finished photos via a private custom download link just for you.

  • Honestly, it’s pretty simple.

    Get enough sleep the night before, wait to eat until after your shoot, wash your face the night before and the morning of.

    Bring wipes to pat your face down in the hot months, as well as a little extra powder to reduce the sheen of your skin.

    Wear simple outfits, reducing any crazy textures or patterns. Wear outfits of similar tones/brightness to your current skin tone. (i.e. if you’re albino, wearing a white or cream sweater might be a good idea! If you have a very dark skin tone, wearing dark clothes will photograph well too!)

    Remember, that although you’ll be coming here to get professional photos done, you are also allowed to enjoy yourself in the process. This is a new experience, something different than usual, and it can be a ton of fun, if you allow it to be!

  • Your photographer Danny has over a dozen years of experience capturing photos professionally. Safe to say, he expertly knows what he’s doing.

    If you see the time and date available in the instant-booking calendar, then the times are available (unless there are any notices advising of the contrary).

    So if you see the time, just book it!

  • We use only the most professional, high-grade equipment which guarantees you’ll get the highest quality photographs possible.

    Our cameras and lenses are a mix of both pro-end Canon and Sony equipment.

  • Generally you can expect for some skin retouching, sharpening, colour balance, tone enhancement and contrast to give your photos more of a pop!

    We don’t go overboard though, as we want your portrait to be honest and representative of the real you.

    Photos are edited in the most up-to-date version of Adobe Photoshop, with the latest tools always being available to edit your photos.

  • You can expect to get your photo pretty promptly. For headshots it takes a maximum of 3 business days, and for portraits it may take up to 5 business days.

    You can always speed your turnaround time to 24 hours for headshots or 48 hours for portraits in the automated booking system when making your reservation. Just look for the checkboxes before you go into the calendar view!

  • Please schedule enough time to arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled start time to avoid lateness, as less time on set means less time building rapport (and thus getting comfortable), and less time spent shooting. This will adversely impact your photos.

    Your scheduled start time and end time should be honoured. If extenuating circumstances arise and I am unable to push back your scheduled start time or you can no longer make it in time before my next appointment, we may need to entirely reschedule your shoot.

  • Yes. There are elevators in the building, and the studio and washroom are all wheelchair accessible.

  • A lot of photography studios are located in old buildings with maze-like tunnels making the units feel like they’re impossible to find!

    Well, you’re in luck. We are in an old building but we’re located right by the street entrance to the building so it’s impossible to miss our unit.

  • You can bring and do your own if you’d like.

    Otherwise, makeup & hair is available upon request, and if the makeup & hair team is available. This will be an extra charge depending on the makeup and hair artists booked.

    Suggested to go as natural as possible for your photoshoot, and if you do want to go a little more “dolled up”, it’s recommended you show up already made up, rather than booking studio time to do your makeup and hair, as this increases the total fee for your session.
